James Tavernier was at Hampden today to Talk up the Viaplay Cup semi-final against Aberdeen, a match that will be shown on television by Viaplay.

The Norwegian based station has bought out Premier Sports and is using sponsorship of the SPFL League Cup to boost their profile and in turn subscriptions.

Tav was pictured holding up a large sized ticket/billboard for Viaplay, when he spoke to the broadcast media it was in front of a Viaplay backing board.

With no transfer activity taking place at Ibrox the club captain was asked about additions to the squad, without prompting he chose to mention a rival broadcaster TWICE.

The Daily Record reports:

Ahead of the clash with Jim Goodwin’s men at the national stadium, the Rangers captain said: “I’d imagine they’d add more quality to the team. But it’s one of those where you have to wait and see. I will probably find out on Sky Sports. But it’s something that you’re always happy to hear because it will always make you stronger.”

The skipper was then quizzed on if he heard any chat in the Ibrox dressing room over signings. Tavernier responded:

“You hear them. You tend to see it on Sky Sports in the morning and see what other clubs are doing. As a general fan of football, you keep an interest on players coming and going.”

Later on Tav referred to the need to win the League Cup.

Next weekend Tav heads to St Johnstone for a Scottish Cup tie that will be shown on Viaplay, not Sky Sports.
