Josip Juranovic flew out to Berlin yesterday via what appears to have been one last look at his team-mates in action against Morton in the Scottish Cup.

The defender has been a Celtic player for less than 18 months but it is a time in his career that he is unlikely to forget. It is believed that he left yesterday’s match at half-time to travel to Edinburgh Airport.

After a season in lockdown at Legia Warsaw he was welcomed by 60,000 home fans to Scottish football where he played a key role in the delivery of two trophies.

His 18 month stint included 12 matches in the Champions League and World Cup Finals which inevitably brought him to the attention of other clubs.

Over the space of a week he helped Celtic reach a cup final, made what looks like a farewell appearance at Celtic back then arrived in Berlin on Saturday night to complete a transfer to one of the top five leagues in world football.

Unlike many previous transfers, such as Virgil van Dijk, Moussa Dembele and Kieran Tierney it seems that Celtic have a manager that anticipated the transfer with Alistair Johnston and Tony Ralston looking well equipped to step in for the Croatian internationalist.

Can’t go all this crap, less than two yrs with us now believes he’s a world class player, well good riddance to him if he doesn’t want to wear the hoops get rid.He will soon realise what he’s left behind forget crocodile tears he used us to get the move

    • Seppington says:

He is “world-class” player, he played in a WC semi-final ffs! Used us? To get a move to Union feckin’ Berlin?!?!? I think there may be more to this than meets the eye, possibly a family issue that he wants to be closer to Croatia in case he needs to get there quickly? I don’t have any proof of that I just find it hard to believe he didn’t get any offers from more desirable clubs as Union are hardly a step up from the glorious hoops ffs! I doubt this is only about money.
Don’t be so bitter about it, bitterness is for the Orange…

  • Scud Missile says:

We laugh at sevco fans and their board for inflating the price of players and we did the same thing here.
The fee is a nickel&dime fee after rumours about EPL outfits chssing him with the bids starting at £15 million plus, what a let down that was especially by the team has decided to join Onion Berlin.

    • Seppington says:

Read the very believable rumour re: lowball release clauses allowed in his and GG’s contracts by Dom McKay being the real reason he “left” the CEO position so quickly…

A great Celtic star, he might only have been here a short time but a great guy and fantastic player, we wish him well in Germany.
Another example of the Celtic trading model, great business. We are light years ahead of sevco and it will continue, maybe 1 day the mooch and Wilson will find such a transfer ??

Bundislega is a much more respected league than SPFL and Union are sitting third only 5 points behind Bayern. Presumably he gets a higher wage too. Germany has always had good relations with Croatia and there is possibly a good Croation community in Berlin. I wish you continued success Josip.
