The twists and turns in the Giorgos Giakoumakis transfer are back in action with reports of a fresh offer from Atlanta United.

Last night Johnny Georgopoulos of SDNA in Greece reported that the striker had returned to Glasgow from a medical in Amsterdam that had been arranged by Urawa Red Diamonds.

At that stage it seemed like the J-League side were the only one to meet Celtic’s asking fee but it seems that development has stirred Atalanta United to review their offer for the Greek internationalist.

On most criteria a move to Atlanta United would be preferable to Giakoumakis who speaks near perfect English.

The arrival of Oh Hyeon-gyu at Celtic this week seemed to close the door on a u-turn with just the destination or continent of his next club to be decided.

Despite training with Celtic this week it is unlikely that Giakoumakis will be in the Celtic squad at Dundee United tomorrow.

No disrespect, decent enough big player and would rather keep him until the end of the season. But he is bustin a gut to go either Amerrica or Japan. Dont slam the door on the way out big man.

he has been unsettled since the birth of his child his wife is unhappy with the weather in scotland she thinks it’s to cold for the baby and he has been terrible since he been missing chance after chance i not sure but i think he has only scored 2 goals since then and he was the one who said what his wife thought

Editor: Scored the stoppage time winner at St Johnstone, got us back into the game at Tynecastle, scored in UCL and saved the day at Ibrox when given 20 minutes to frighten the life out of Goldson, we will do very well to get that sort of return on a £2.5m signing.

  • Jack says:

Glad he’s finally gone I like him but seems he needs a wage that other players can be comfortable with no matter what his agent says he should read the contract no bug rise in wages for nmbr 2 or 3 striker if that what he might have been told nothing to do with playing time he gets on the park most games as most of the squad does its money he going for

  • Frank says:

Deadly inside the six yard box. Clumsy outside of it. Need a striker who can hold and pass as well as score.
