Ally McCoist was at his wise cracking best last night as he trotted out the paranoia line in Scottish Football Extra.

The Chunky Chappy hasn’t laughed so much since he was in the TalkSPORT studio with Alan Brazil when Ange Postecoglou was announced as the new Celtic manager. As soon as he spotted the Australian at Ibrox last April Coisty was all smiles and hugs, like when your son gets a favourable verdict in the courtroom.

With Celtic nine points ahead in the race for the SPFL title and Postecoglou onto his third Ibrox manager there isn’t much for McCoist to giggle about- much like his record in managment.

While boosting his bank balance McCoist famously led Rangers to defeats against Malmo and Maribor that brought on administration and liquidation.

Under his good friend Charles Green there were cup defeats to Forfar, Queen of the South, Raith Rovers and Alloa as well as a few sore ones from Dundee United and Inverness Caley Thistle.

There weren’t many jokes in the away dressing room when a 2-0 lead at Alloa was overturned in the semi-final of the Irn Bru Petroltank Challenge Cup, with a match against Celtic looming at Hampden McCoist bailed out to leave his mate Kenny McDowall to take charge of the sinking ship.

Ah, what a laugh from the King of Banter.
