Celtic remain in pole position to sign Cho Gue-sung despite unexpected interest from elsewhere in Glasgow.

The hoops were first linked with the South Korean striker at the end of November but unlike other transfer deals this one seems to be encountering some difficulties compared to the almost clockwork like negotiations for Yuki Kobayashi, Alistair Johnston and Tomoki Iwata.

Gue-sung seems destined to move to Europe this month but switching continent involves more than the usual negotiations for a high profile 24-year-old.

Since revealing Celtic’s interest in Alexandro Bernabei in June Hendry appears to have a strong grasp of Celtic’s transfer activities.

Ange Postecoglou’s profile in Asia will be an attraction alongside the success of players brought in from the J-League.

Against that Giorgos Giakoumakis appears keen to get out of Celtic which is likely to raise a few questions whether they are financial or related to playing time expectations.

Should be Greek striker be on the move a ready made replacement will be required even though Kyogo Furuhashi appears to have rediscovered the mobility and goal touch that made such an impact in his first season before he was struck down by a serious hamstring issue.

I wonder why Mark Hendry , the deputy editor of the daily Record owned Football Scotland ,does not have the brains to ask where are the Rangers going to get the money to participate in buying new players ,as the clumpany is pratted ! He is regarded as in the know ,and yet fails to ask such a simple , fundamental question ….No doubt he will make editor of the digital rag , very soon … What is so damned difficult in trying to be a good old fashioned scoop by asking probing questions , occasionally ?
