In The Know reporter reveals Kevin Nisbet transfer update

There has been no contact between Celtic and Hibs over Kevin Nisbet according to Scott Burns.

The Express/Daily Record reporter was first to reveal the news that Giorgos Giakoumakis was looking for a January move after talks over an improved contract broke down.

Yesterday Fabrizio Romano tweeted that Celtic and Urawa Red Diamonds had agreed terms on a transfer which prompted speculation over who would replace Giakoumakis at Celtic.

Nisbet is the most obvious Scottish option but in The Express Burns claims that others have jumped the gun:

Kevin Nisbet has burst back to top form for Hibs since recovering from his nightmare knee injury with a fantastic seven-goal burst in six games.

The scoring exploits have shot the Scotland striker back onto the radar of a number of top clubs – but Scottish Express Sport can reveal that Celtic have NOT made contact with either Hibs or the player’s representatives. Ironically, Steven Gerrard was a big fan and wanted to bring him to Ibrox last in 2021.

Losing Giakoumakis for a fee in the region of £3-4m is a source of mystery to most Celtic fans.

Down the years the club has a very poor record of finding strikers. In 2017 Brendan Rodgers could choose between Moussa Dembele, Leigh Griffiths and Odsonne Edouard but their replacements were Vakoun Bayo, Patryk Klimala and Albian Ajeti.

Postecoglou has transformed Celtic’s trading in the transfer market but finding a striker in mid-season to replace Giakoumakis appears to be a big ask.
