Italian club want Celtic defender on loan followed by cut price sale

Transfer

A number of reports have emerged claiming that Celtic are in talks with Monza over a deal to send Josip Juranovic on loan to the Italian club before completing a £6.2m move in the summer.

The fee seems  ridiculous for a 27-year-old World Cup semi-finalist that played in the Champions League but repeated reports are quoting a figure in that range for Celtic’s first choice right-back.

Although he has a contract that runs until May 2026 there seems to be an inevitability that Juranovic will be sold with speculation dating back to before the World Cup Finals got underway in November.

At lunchtime on Thursday Sports Italia reports:

At the centre of various market rumours after the excellent World Cup with Croatia, Josip Juranovi? of Celtic Glasgow could soon land in the top Italian championship. According to what has been learned by the SPORTITALIA editorial staff, a meeting between Monza and the Scottish club is scheduled for today to define the operation for the 1995 native of Zagreb.

An under par Juranovic was pitched into the Glasgow derby as a first half substitute for Greg Taylor with his performance under attack from a range of critics.

With Tony Ralston already at the club and Alastair Johnston signed in November Celtic appear to have the position covered but a fee of under £10m will surprise supporters.
