Joey Dawson’s hopes of going on loan to Newport County appear to be over with the Welsh side signing Charlie McNeill on loan from Manchester United.

The two 19-year-old’s have very similar profiles but as Dawson prepares to complete a second season on the mainly plastic pitches of the Lowland League McNeill will be involved in the nitty-gritty of life in League Two where his new club are in 19th place in the 26 club division.

Celtic signed Dawson from Scunthorpe in the summer of 2021, self isolation saw him promoted to being on the first team bench at St Johnstone on December 26 with Ben Doak for company.

Injury to Kyogo Furuhashi gave Dawson an hour of action but after the winter break he returned to Lowland League duty.
