Liam Scales found himself on the end of one of the biggest Scottish Cup upsets ever when Aberdeen lost 1-0 at Darvel in the fourth round.

It was a well contested 90 minutes with little to separate the sides despite Darvel playing two divisions below SPFL League Two.

With just one win since the World Cup break it is unlikely that Jim Goodwin will survive the result with chairman Dave Cormack looking on in despair at the tiny Ayrshire ground

Scales was paired with skipper Anthony Stewart in the centre of the Aberdeen defence that failed to clear their lines as Jordan Kilpatrick turned to slide in the only goal of the game from 10 yards out after 20 minutes played.

Darvel were fit and organised throughout, there was no hint of desperation in their play as they coped with some increased Dons pressure midway through the second half.

Aberdeen are away to Hibs at the weekend with the spotlight on Pittodrie as another season falls apart, the Dons visit Celtic on February 18.

Ah the Scales of Justice catching up with Aberdeen.

  • HC Andersen says:

Oh dear Aberdeen, what is going on? I like Jim Goodwin but can’t see how he can survive this one.

On May 16th, after watching how poorly Jim Goodwin handled the Scott Brown situation, losing their most sound and experienced campaigner, along with the equally ridiculous treatment of Andy Considine, I told a friend of mine that Goodwin would be gone by Christmas. While I was clearly out there, I really don’t think I will be too far out, with expectations being that Goodwin won’t be at Aberdeen too much longer after today.
He demonstrated massive insecurity wanting both of those players out. He knew they were both bigger than he is.
Today, I think he got his come-uppence!

You must be right… Can’t survive this can he? No way although lord knows who next for Aberdeen???

  • Stevie says:

Half they players should be shown the door. Especially the so called captain. Only upped their game when hayes came on. Like Jim Goodwin but I think he underestimated Darvel and should’ve played his strongest team as they haven’t been doing very well lately and this was the banana skin.
