It is stating the obvious but Scott Brown was the leading factor in Scott Robertson moving to join League One Fleetwood Town.

During 14 years at Celtic Brown left a massive impression on the club with players like Robertson watching and learning from the approach of the midfielder.

Today Fleetwood head to Sheffield Wednesday with the former Academy kid and club legend reunited as they look to push their new club up the table.

Robertson knows the scene in League One following loan spells with Crewe, Doncaster and Gillingham and is looking forward to his new challenge.

He told the Fleetwood website:

I am really pleased to be here, and I just can’t wait to get games under my belt. With the connection of Celtic and Scott Brown, he played a big part in me coming to Fleetwood. When I first spoke to him, it was positive, we got on and it was just a matter of getting the deal done.

It was a big reason for me coming here, they have a very good training ground and the club have a good little stadium. The manager was a big call but there’s more aspects here.

The squad is full of quality and comes with that is the ambition and it’s a group who doesn’t want to just stay in League One, the chairman wants to push up the leagues and hopefully I can help with that.

The squad in general have welcomed me in, but I have created a bond already with Shaun Rooney. He has taken me under his wing and with us both being Celtic fans, well him being a bigger fan, I just haven’t met anyone like him.

Celtic are a big club in Scotland and having been there for the last 14 years, it will only help me in my career as I make the step here at Fleetwood. Also, with my previous loans, I feel each loan have brought me something different and it’s all good experience.

I know this league. I think with the loans they have all gave me different challenges and they’ve all kept me in good stead.

With the surplus of midfielders at Celtic there is no surprise that Robertson has left, following Kerr McInroy and Ewan Henderson who departed last year.

The arrival of Tomoki Iwata adds to the depth that Ange Postecoglou has to call on with James McCarthy, Yosuke Ideguchi and Oliver Abidgaard unable to start any matches in the first half of the season. Additionally Liam Shaw and Ismaila Soro are out on loan.
