At the age of 23 Jota isn’t ready to be described as part of the old guard, or even part of the Celtic Park furniture!
The winger joined Celtic on the final day of the summer 2021 transfer window as Ange Postecoglou completed his first batch of business with Cameron Carter-Vickers and Giorgos Giakoumakis also getting on board.
It is doubtful if there has ever been a more successful day’s business at Celtic. The loan deals for Jota and Carter-Vickers were converted to permanent moves in the summer, ironically Giakoumakis arrived on a five year contract but looks like being the first of that trio to move on.
In less than 70 Celtic appearances Jota has scored twice in the Champions League, netted twice in the Glasgow derby and helped his side to win the SPFL Premiership title but with his 24th birthday not until the end of March he was bemused at the suggestion that he is part of the old guard at Celtic.

QUESTION: New players don’t have to wait too long at the minute to get a game or to make their first appearance. How do you help the new players bed in, you know, you’re now of the old guard?
JOTA: (Looking to someone by his side) Am I old guard? (laughs) An old guy is Callum and I’m not on that level.
QUESTION: You are part of the furniture
JOTA: No, no, no, no, no, no. I need to run a lot and play a lot of games to be on that level yet. I’m not over there.
