One more! Giakoumakis sends out silent message from Hampden

There was one goal, no media interviews and three Instagram posts put together by Giorgos Giakoumakis at Hampden yesterday.

Over the previous couple of days he had apparently agreed terms to join both Sampdoria and Urawa Red Diamonds but in the 73rd minute he was sent into the Viaplay Cup semi-final against Kilmarnock yesterday.

It was the seventh successive match that he had been called off the bench, every time he leaves his mark whether it is setting up a late equaliser at Ibrox or rattling the woodwork as he did twice in last week’s SPFL win over Kilmarnock.

Last night big George did what he knows best, popping the ball into the net with a single touch. It wasn’t the touch that mattered, it was the anticipation to follow the flow of the ball and be in the right place when Sam Walker parried a shot from David Turnbull.

There are two weeks of transfer speculation still to endure, when Celtic return to Hampden for the Viaplay Cup Final next month almost all fans will be hoping that Giakoumakis is still on board.
