Sampdoria appear to have entered the race to sign Giorgos Giakoumakis.
The striker has more than three years left to run on his Celtic contract but it seems likely that he will be on the move this month.
Over the weekend there were strong reports that Urawa Red Diamonds were close to striking a deal to take Giakoumakis to the J-League but a similar proposal from Sampdoria would prove very attractive.
Greek website SDNA reports:
A pleasant “headache” for Giorgos Giakoumakis since, according to SDNA’s exclusive information, at least five teams are fighting for his acquisition, with Sampdoria having recently entered the game of acquiring the Greek striker!
Giorgos Giakoumakis is counting down the new step of his career, since it is assumed that he will leave Celtic, even within the current week!
All that remains to be clarified is his concession status and the club where he will write the next chapter of his career as a footballer.
The top scorer of the Eredivisie in the 2020/21 season, weighs all the data available in order to make the best possible decision, while Blas Hosseini’s new agent has long been on the job.
According to exclusive information from SDNA, Sampdoria, which is fighting to stay in Serie A, sees in the person of Giakoumakis the forward who will be able to provide solutions in scoring. The Greek international ace likes the coach of the team from Genoa, Dejan Stankovic, and developments are expected.
From there, the 28-year-old forward has in his hands a tempting offer from Japan, specifically from Urava Diamonds, while he has also been approached by a Russian team with great financial prosperity.
Celtic’s forward options are not limited to Italy, Russia and Japan. For several weeks now he has received suffocating pressure from a club from the MLS, while contacts have also been made with a Bundesliga team.
The only thing that is certain is that the week that begins will be “hot” for Giorgos Giakoumakis, who is called upon to decide on his future!
How serious the interest is is difficult to gauge but it certainly seems that the agent is getting news out there of interest in his client.
Werder Bremen of Bundesliga 2 were the only other club in contention to sign Giakoumakis before he joined Celtic in August 2021.
Before the World Cup break the former AEK Athens striker shared duties with Kyogo Furuhashi but in the last six matches he has had to settle for a place coming off the substitute bench.
