Willie Collum will referee Celtic’s League Cup semi-final against Kilmarnock at Hampden on Saturday January 14.

The appointment comes less than a fortnight after the Lanarkshire based official was on VAR duty in the Glasgow Derby where Celtic were denied a second half penalty when Connor Goldson handled a shot from Carl Starfelt.

Collum had access to all of the cameras from Sky Sports but decided against getting John Beaton to review the incident, believing that no clear and obvious error had occurred.

Celtic go to Hampden looking to defend the trophy that they won last season against Hibs, Ange Postecoglou’s first trophy in Scotland.

Pitchside Collum will have the relatively inexperienced Grant Irvine as Fourth Official while Greg Stewart will be on VAR duty.

Celtic meet Kilmarnock at home on Saturday with Nick Walsh in charge, the Bearsden based PE teacher will be in charge of the other League Cup semi-final when Micky Beale’s side take on Aberdeen at Hampden on January 15.

  • Clachnacuddin and the Hoops says:

After Monday can Celtic not ask for him not to referee our matches for the rest of the season…

After all Sevco did a while back and got exactly what they wanted…

So why the hell cant we !

Editor: When the Celtic directors let Steven McLean off with it following the Inverness CT semi-final in 2015 they set a precedent, the SFA know that there might be a statement or whisper to a friendly reporter but no chance of action.

  • George Kerr says:

Get a grip, this tosser shouldn’t be allowed near Celtic Park. He’s a biased individual, He carries a chip on his shoulder, and over the years he has tried to show us who he is? He is supposed to be a NEUTRAL, yet we get all the wee nyaffs dubious decisions.
Now we have Var, he can hide away and show his NLRA pals how to sucker punch us with the most despicable decisions ever handed out to one team.
Expel him from our stadium. The SFA and Maxwell, we need to expel them as well. They are the fan club for the Klan at Ipox.
