Wacky Tam Cowan brought in to defend and deflect from his mates Beaton and Collum

Tam Cowan has been brought in to use his unique sense of humour to deflect attention away from Willie Collum and John Beaton.

On Monday the Motherwell fan allowed his attention to be deflected from his own side being in action at Livingston towards Ibrox where two Lanarkshire match officials were on duty.

As well as his hilarious double act on Radio Scotland with Stuart Cosgrove, Cowan is available on the After-Dinner circuit where he recalls humorous tales from 30 years in Scottish football as a proud fan of one of the Diddy Teams. Tam is a pure braw laddie.

It seems that the social media backlash to Monday’s match has troubled the establishment, the familiar excuses of paranoia and conspiracy are prominent in their defence of Beaton and Madden.

Cowan can’t offer any explanation why the team second in the SPFL haven’t had a penalty awarded against them all season, strangely the league leaders have conceded five penalties. He can’t explain why Bearsden PE teacher Nick Walsh has refereed five of the 20 SPFL matches played by the Ibrox club this season.

That run of good fortune over penalties never followed the Ibrox club into Europe where in 10 matches refereed by pesky foreigners USG of Belgium, Napoli (2) and Liverpool were all awarded penalties.

Cowan and Cosgrove will be entertaining BBC licence payers on Saturday lunchtime, the Motherwell funnyman recently apologised to Marvin Bartley.
