Despite the foul conditions of the worst of winter there was no letting up in Celtic’s celebrations after the 2-0 Viaplay Cup semi-final win over Kilmarnock.

The Hampden bowl doesn’t offer much protection, or any protection against the elements but one match away from the first trophy of the season there was much to celebrate.

A tap in from Giorgos Giakoumakis in stoppage time ensured that the match didn’t go to extra-time with the players looking exhausted as they saluted the backing of more than 40,000 supporters.

The conditions and state of the pitch made it tough going, with Kilmarnock defending in depth Celtic had to be very disciplined to break them down.

Kyle Lafferty provided a helping hand when he blasted a ‘clearance’ off Daizen Maeda for the opener in the 18th minute, it was no surprise that he was left behind in the dressing room at half time.

Giakoumakis was one of three substitutes in the 74th minute, supporters will be hoping that his Hampden goal won’t be his last as a Celtic player.
