After another false dawn ended with Celtic lifting the Viaplay Cup Ibrox fans on social media are calling for a boardroom clear out.

Less than a year ago 45,000 happy bears were partying in Seville trying to convince themselves that the SPFL title was small fry ahead of losing out to the 10th best team in Germany.

John Lundstram was the best midfielder on earth while Giovanni van Bronckhorst had applied a few tweaks to the squad to raise the bar higher than Steven Gerrard had ever managed.

This season started with a place in the Champions League record books, another hiding at Celtic Park followed by the return of True Blue Micky Beale, fresh from sharing a few drinks with the loyal bears in the Loundon Tavern.

January brought Nicolas Raskin and Todd Cantwell to the club as the squad renewal was again put off but all was well with Beale the brightest young coach in the game.

At 1.45pm yesterday the Hampden team was announced without the January signings, by 5pm the bears were on their way back to Larkhall, Kilwinning, Bearsden and Bridgeton while Celtic lifted another trophy.

If Beale fails the board come into the firing line, from the Twitter thread below delivering two trophies in 11 years won’t offer up much in the way of protection.

The thread concludes with this belter, after the very detailed listing of boardroom failings.
