I’d like to apologise to the fans, an unacceptable performance! Tavernier repeats his well worn post match speech

This time last week James Tavernier was explaining why he was honoured and proud to be inducted into the ‘Rangers’ Hall of Fame alongside TUPE legends Steve Davis and Allan McGregor.

Today he was on more familiar ground as he explained away another trophy defeat with both Celtic goals coming from targeting the former Wigan Athletic journeyman.

Now into his eighth season at Ibrox Tav has two real winners medals to his name, only one of them picked up in front of supporters.

At the age of 31 it may be that time is running out on the Englishman even though he got another contract extension last year.

Kyogo Furuhashi, Joe Hart, Cameron Carter-Vickers and Carl Starfelt ave now surpassed Tav’s winners medal tally, by the end of this season Alistair Johnston and Aaron Mooy could also overtake the Hall of Famer.

First and foremost, I have to apologise to the fans. It was an unacceptable performance from ourselves. The first half wasn’t good enough and we know that. Also conceding before half time, you give yourself more to do.

Then we concede a second but got a goal, create another good chance but then wasted enough time in the game to react and that’s the most disappointing factor.

We know what to expect but as a team we have to show up on the day. I felt like we didn’t do that for large parts of the game. We all have to look in the mirror and be honest with each other.
