Twelve months ago there was an extra spring in the step of Ibrox fans, accompanied by that glow of smugness that only they could produce.

Following draws away to Aberdeen and Ross County that had cut the gap at the top of the SPFL Premiership from six points down to four the club had gone into the transfer market to flex their muscle.

Not content with £37m wonder-kid Amad Diallo they went out and signed one of the best players in Serie A with Aaron Ramsey resisting a late offer from Burnley to join the treatment room at Murray Park.

Some fans started a petition to have a statue of Ross Wilson put up alongside John Greig at Ibrox.

Kris Boyd could barely complete a sentence such was his level of excitement, the lads on The Gers TV were equally thrilled.

To be fair late in May the Welsh penalty specialist had fans of every other club in Scotland cheering his name as he stepped up for duty in Seville.

Rambo Ramsey is now draining the wage bill of French club Nice which is nice.
