Tavernier’s standards? Watch the 2019 League Cup Final incident when Gerrard’s side did a Tillman on Celtic

Probably sharing a hastily put together script, James Tavernier told Viaplay Sports viewers about the apparent standards that his club have.

In the 70th minute of the Scottish Cup tie against Partick Thistle Malik Tillman took possession from an opponent preparing to return the ball, ran in on goal and scored against the Championship side.

The Thistle players were furious, seeing the danger Micky Beale ordered his players to allow their opponents to score directly from the restart.

Afterwards Beale and Tavernier were basking in the PR of being such great sportsmen in a win-win situation. Strangely their reactions just over three years ago at Hampden against Celtic in the League Cup Final were very different.

As Willie Collum decided not to notice Alfredo Morelos follow through on Chris Jullien the Celtic players, down to 10 men after Jeremy Frimpong was red carded, put the ball out to allow the defender treatment. At Ibrox Tillman didn’t have to go off the pitch after treatment, Collum insisted that Jullien went off leaving Celtic down to nine men when play restarted.

Super Sportsman Tav was on the pitch, lovely bloke Beale was in the Technical Area with Mister Gerrard with the Ibrox side retaining possession and trying to force an equaliser.
