While European clubs were burning the midnight oil to bring in new signings before various deadlines last night the rest of the world got on with business as usual.
Giorgos Giakoumakis remains a Celtic player this morning, it is unlikely but e could be in Ange Postecoglou’s squad for tonight’s match against Livingston.
In England the window slammed shut at 11pm, in Scotland an hour later.
Some clubs rush to announce deals to the expectant audience but as long as certain documents are with the FA and SFA by a certain time aspects can be tidied up and completed shortly after the deadline passes.
There was an expectation that Giakoumakis would leave Celtic yesterday but the transfer windows in the J-League and MLSÂ remain open until April for Urawa Red Diamonds and Atlanta United.
Celtic can’t do anything with any transfer fee but some forward planning saw Oh Hyeon-gyu making his debut on January 29 away to Dundee United.
The J-League season is already underway for Urawa Red Diamonds but they have until April 2 to add to their squad.
Atlanta United are just starting their pre-season training, their opening MLS fixture is on February 26 when they host San Jose Earthquakes, the MLS transfer window closes on April 24.
There could be work permit issues in Japan and the USA but it is likely that Giakoumakis’ departure will be finalised this week.
