Joey Dawson has announced on Instagram that he won’t play again this year.

The young striker was out of favour in the Celtic B team at the start of the season but has returned to the side in December with a glut of goals that included two doubles in the Glasgow Derby, in the Lowland League at Celtic Park and at Auchinhowie in the Glasgow Cup.

Dawson picked up the injury on Airdrie’s plastic pitch in the match against Cumbernauld Colts on March 10.

Newport County and Inverness Caley Thistle made approaches to take the striker on loan in January but those moves were rejected by Celtic.

Being out of action for nine months is a blow for any player, at the age of 19 going into the final year of his contract must be a massive blow for an inform striker.

Dawson does have one first team appearance to his name, coming off the bench at St Johnstone in December 2021 for Kyogo Furuhashi.

Self isolating meant that Ange Postecoglou had a depleted squad to take to Perth with Ryan Mullen, Ben Doak, Owen Moffat, Ismaila Soro and Boli Bolingoli joining the young striker on the bench.
