Until Monday night Craig McPherson had gone through 52 years without really being known outside of the lower reaches of Scottish football.

A completely unremarkable player at Morton and Falkirk his move into coaching was very low key, being assistant manager at Morton isn’t going to pay for much more than the essentials.

In March 2017 he did find himself in the spotlight but with attention on Neil Lennon and Jim Duffy the Morton assistant was edged aside as media attention focussed on a fiery Championship clash.

In April 2017 the Daily Mail reported:

Jim Duffy was hit with a three-game touchline ban for his part in last month’s Easter Road melee on Thursday.

The Morton manager was at the centre of ugly on-field scenes sparked by Kudus Oyenuga’s crude foul on Hibs’ Jordon Forster towards the end of the 0-0 draw.

Duffy later admitted he was embarrassed by his part in the flare-up which also saw Hibs’ boss Neil Lennon charged by the SFA.

Duffy did not contest the misconduct charge which alleged he entered the Hibs’ technical area and adopted an aggressive attitude towards Lennon on March 29.

Two of the three games will be served immediately meaning he’ll be in the stand for Saturday’s home game with Ayr and the trip to Dunfermline the following week.

The third is suspended and will only be served if Duffy gets into trouble again before the end of the year.

Duffy’s assistant, Craig McPherson, also faced a misconduct charge but escaped any punishment after the complaint was withdrawn.

Morton did, however, admit that three or more players and/or members of staff were involved in a confrontation with their opposite numbers and were fined £750, with £250 of that sum suspended pending a repeat offence before the end of the year.

What’s even more strange is that McPherson has not publicly apologised for his
    headbutt?

Yes, if the Police are really going to investigate, then – normally – admitting an offence publicly is not wise.

But, when it was shown live on TV, and was an unprovoked attack, an apology might help…?

But that’s not the sevco way, is it?

Ignore the “haters”, rise above it all, and never apologise: just like the old club.
