Liel Abada has returned to Celtic for treatment on a muscle injury.

The winger pulled out of training on Monday with the Israeli national side, after being ruled out of the international double header he has returned to Scotland for treatment.

A week ago against Hibs Abada came off the bench for a half hour appearance but somewhere between that stint and reporting for international duty the injury has set in.

The Sun reports Israeli boss Alon Hazan saying:

To Liel’s credit, it should be said that he did everything to be fit but unfortunately he arrived injured and it’s not possible.

It is a minor injury but it would still limit him from playing. He did not agree to give up the possibility of being available and has tried everything, but it hasn’t worked.

Celtic will be able to assess the injury and put together a rehab plan with two critical Glasgow derby matches coming up during April.

Although Abada has only started 10 SPFL matches this season he has appeared in every other league match as a substitute, earlier this month he came off the bench away to St Mirren to help turn a 1-0 loss into an emphatic 5-1 victory.

Having the 21-year-old fit and available for the upcoming derby matches would be a big boost for Ange Postecoglou with Abada excelling in that fixture.

Greg Taylor, Aaron Mooy and Cameron Carter-Vickers were all spared from international duty in order to rest injuries.
