Image for Daily Record revives their Aston Villa swoop for Morelos yarn

With links to Sevilla and Galatasaray leading to nowhere Aston Villa are back in the ‘race’ for Alfredo Morelos.

The initial report comes from Spanish publisher Estadio Deportivo and loyally reheated by the Daily Record in a bid to present the Ibrox striker as having some relevance.

After 11 transfer windows trying to generate interest in Morelos the saga is coming to a close with a low key summer exit with no Dembele Dollars coming in for Micky Beale’s warchest.

The current Ibrox boss has been giving out mixed messages at recent media conferences as he tries to coax the Colombian through to the end of the season.

With Kemar Roofe out for the remainder of the season it will be Morelos or Antonio Colak leading the line as Beale tries to finish the season with a flourish.

The Record reports:

Villa have emerged more recently as potential suitors. Unai Emery replace Morelos’ former Gers boss Steven Gerrard earlier this season and has been linked with a move for El Bufalo this summer as he looks to put his own stamp on the Villains squad. Turkish giants Galatasaray have also been linked but have admitted defeat in their attempts to lure the player to Turkey, according to claims by Estadio Deportivo.

They say that Morelos is yet to make up his mind between a switch to Spain or England. However, the money on offer in Birmingham is likely to be higher than in Seville. The lack of a language barrier may also prove tempting, although Emery’s presence at Villa Park would negate that issue slightly if he were to head south.

Even the Record knows that available on a Bosman there is still no EPL interest in Morelos with a return to Colombia or a ‘big money’ move to Mexico expected to be his only options.

Estadio Deportivo reports:

The player has scored 122 goals and given 58 assists in the more than 200 games he has played over the last five years with the Protestant team. It was one of the sensations last season, when Rangers reached the UEFA Europa League final, which they lost at the Sánchez-Pizjuán.

(Morelos was in the queue for burgers rather than missing penalties)

Last summer he was already in Sevilla’s orbit, although then he had to pay for a transfer and the Nervión team ended up reinforcing itself at the last minute with a forward on loan, Kasper Dolberg. In fact, ESTADIO Deportivo got in touch with its most intimate environment and from there they recognized that Sevilla FC “would be a very good option” for Morelos , since “he likes Spanish football” and “Sevilla FC is always participating in Europe “.

Logically, as a free agent, he is not the only club interested and among the teams that want him is a group that seems to attack everything that has moved lately; and that he has coincided in some objectives with Sevilla. It is about Turkish Galatasaray.

Attackers of the level of Mauro Icardi, Bafétimbi Gomis, Mertens currently play in the Superlig leader, which indicates that they have the economic potential to fight with Sevilla for the player. However, the Turkish press almost ruled out the option of the Ottoman team, since, according to what they say, Alfredo Morelos is torn between two clubs: Sevilla FC and Aston Villa.

The Nervión team would try to repeat with Morelos the great operation that in his day he did with Carlos Bacca , who came from a second level League, with a great projection and ended up consolidating himself as a Nervionense, winning the Europa League twice and ending up in the Milan in exchange for more than 33 million euros. The age at which Bacca arrived in his day is the same as that of his compatriot right now, who is in the prime of his career.

Clearly the reporter hasn’t taken a look at this season’s prime performances, not every 26-year-old Colombian is going to be transferred to Barcelona for 33 million euros.

    ‘The Protestant Club’, chortle, guffaw….

That’s how the real world sees them….

I don’t get it – he’s either leaving for nothing or they’ll be paying him far too much to stay

Win / win for us, feck the press

  • Freddie Lochhead says:

Zero chance of that happening. There’s a much better youngster than him scoring for fun in the Championship playoff places.
