David Tanner had a lot of anger to release when he took to Twitter late on Wednesday night.
Scotland’s win over Spain should have given him a welcome distraction from the pain of the SPFL Premiership table but seeing Kieran Tierney and Callum McGregor bossing it at Hampden probably created distressing flashbacks.
Since being mutually consented by Sky Sports in the summer of 2017 Tanner’s career has been on the slide. Instead of sharing banter with the glamorous team at Sky Sports News he has teamed up with Scott Gardiner and Tam Cowan to go on the Bowling Club circuit covering Ayrshire, Lanarkshire and the darkest holes of Lothian and Fife.
An article in Glasgow Live! prompted last night’s rant, justifying every one of the seven penalties awarded against Celtic since VAR was introduced in mid-October, highlighting the presence of 50,000 or 60,000 fans plus media pressure.
Strangely this only applies to one Glasgow club.
So far this season 33.3% of the goals that Celtic have lost in the SPFL Premiership have come from the penalty spot, across the city 0% of the goals conceded by The Ibrox Tribute Act has come from penalties.
That is one FACT! That Tanner won’t go near, must like the FACT! That it is over 14 months since a penalty was awarded against the Tribute Act in the SPFL Premiership.
Tanner joined Twitter in July 2017 and has built up 13,100 followers, Chris Sutton has 305,400 Twitter followers.
“Celtic had not conceded a penalty before the introduction of VAR but have lost seven since October”.
Here’s what that ACTUALLY means:
Being a big club, Celtic got away with a lot as refs were influenced by crowds & pressure via the media.
7 fouls = 7 pens.
VAR is a leveller. https://t.co/fp6DcrFtWQ

Why, Andy?
There is so much nonsense spouted about pens in Glasgow – all built on belief rather than any evidence!

Former Celtic and Partick Thistle goalkeeper, recently retired Police Superintendent
So you honestly look at every pen celtic have conceded since the introduction of var and say that everyone was 100% the correct decision???

What biased about that?
The big clubs get a huge advantage with 50 or 60k fans on the refs’ backs.
And the laugh is, you all think they’re against you!
Hard to influence the guys in a VT room 5 miles away.
They’ve committed 7 fouls in the box & 7 pens were awarded. That’s ok.

So why have tsevco not conceded any since var or b4? Blatant handballs etc, not even looked at by var

I find it quite bonkers that pen stats are produced as evidence – often of long held beliefs – without the relevant additional data alongside them:
how many of the decisions were actually wrong?!— David Tanner (@DavidTannerTV) March 29, 2023
David, applying your logic (and I get your thinking).. yes, in Glasgow there has previously been evidence of refs bottling it. But why does this logic only apply to one club with 50k+?
I’m sure there’s been numerous examples of ‘stonewallers’ being ignored. Why is that?

My daddy always told me to stay off the internet when you’ve had a few fizzy drinkies..
David was a bit thirsty and he should know better!
Another treble should just about do it methinks.
Many are on the drink and on the brink.
It’s not that difficult to influence guys in a VT room 5 miles away when they are fans of another clumpany in private ! Ken …
