Fears that Liel Abada had torn a muscle in a training session with the Israeli national team have been eased.

Examination on Tuesday resulted in a forecast of a phased return to training this week with the possibility that the Celtic winger could be involved in Saturday’s European Championship qualifier at home to Kosovo.

On Tuesday evening Israeli site Sport 5 reported:

Before the training, good news came from the direction of Liel Abada, who stretched his quadriceps muscle last night and abandoned the training.

The fear of a muscle tear has been removed and now the player will try to return gradually with the goal of trying to qualify him for the match against Kosovo.

Abada, who will undergo an MRI tomorrow, took part in the training and said: “I feel much better than yesterday.’

There is always a stained relationship between clubs and international squads regarding injuries with Greg Taylor, Cameron Carter-Vickers and Aaron Mooy missing out on this batch of fixtures.

The Israeli FA will be anxious to have Abada available for their matches against Kosovo and especially Switzerland away on Tuesday, aggravating an injury isn’t in their interests.

Celtic will be in regular contact with the Israeli FA but it will be on Wednesday when Abada returns from Switzerland that the extent of any knock will be assessed.

The hoops are next in action on April 2 away to Ross County, five days after Israel play in Switzerland.
