Robbie Neilson played to the media gallery last night as he claimed that you require a decapitation to have a Celtic player sent off in a home match.

Not for the first time the Hearts boss is miles away from reality but it made for easy headlines and it appears no-one was prepared to challenge the Hearts boss or ask him about the early challenges from Cammy Devlin and James Hill that went unpunished.

During the calendar year 2022 three Celtic players were sent off in home matches which is probably just above average.

Back on January 29 at home to Dundee United Nir Bitton was sent off by Euan Anderson in the 81st minute for a second yellow card. A trip, no ambulance was required. An 89th minute goal from Liel Abada ensured a home win and three vital points.

This season, on October 1 John Beaton red carded Callum McGregor for denying Motherwell what he viewed as a clear goalscoring opportunity. No serious injury was reported, Celtic won the match 2-1.

At home to St Johnstone on December 24 Kevin Clancy was told to take a look at the VAR monitor then produced a red card for David Turnbull in the 89th minute. The suspension ruled him out of the next two matches, away at Easter Road and Ibrox.
