Stuart Gibson has repeated Micky Beale’s claim that Ange Postecoglou is a lucky manager.

It seems that Celtic and especially their finances are never far from the thoughts of the power-brokers at Ibrox. Gibson is based in Hong Kong and is the third biggest shareholder at Ibrox.

Postecoglou has spent heavily since becoming Celtic boss but that has mainly been funded by player sales such as the exits of Jeremie Frimpong, Odsonne Edouard, Ryan Christie, Kris Ajer, Giorgos Giakoumakis and Josip Juranovic.

While Celtic have taken that route across the city big money offers for Ryan Kent and Alfredo Morelos who both started last month’s Viaplay Cup Final at Hampden.

Listening to the This is Ibrox podcast discuss the current position of the club board, The National reports Gibson saying:

In terms of where they’re at now, and where they’re supposed to be when I first had the initial conversation, I think they’ve achieved it.

They’re sustainable now. But we’re second in the league. We’re nine points behind Celtic and that’s just not acceptable.

That’s something we need to fix. As our new manager said recently and he got into a bit of trouble: ‘The Celtic manager has been lucky he had such vast sums at his disposal’.

That’s good for them but they basically had no one to beat for ten years. They should have accrued that wealth anyway.

We’d have accrued that same wealth had we been in that position but again we’re behind Celtic so we still have to have more money to be able to go into the transfer market, I think in a bigger way.

In season 2015/16 Celtic won just one domestic trophy, with Mark Warburton leading the Ibrox club into the top flight in season 2016/17 the hoops went on a run of winning 12 successive trophies with that tally now running at 15 of the last 18 honours.

Over the last 18 months the Ibrox side has sold Nathan Patterson, Joe Aribo and Calvin Bassey while reaching the final of the Europa League and group stage of the Champions League.

With that sort of income there should be plenty for Beale to spend in the summer, during January the new Ibrox boss had a bigger net spend than Postecoglou with Nicolas Raskin and Todd Cantwell signed with only Charlie McCann sold.
