Last night’s win over Spain was a welcome distraction from the SFA but in the digital age their inaction has already gone global- at the worst possible time.
Yesterday a variety of UEFA delegates and officials were in Glasgow for a European Championship qualifier, any viewing of local social media would have one story screaming out at them above all others #’trending.
Birthday boy Craig McPherson was all across Twitter for most of the day, not through action from his club or the SFA but these days suppressing the news is virtually impossible.
Worst of all for the SFA was the presence of the Spanish media, some of whom might have wanted to get the lowdown on Scotland with Fran Alonso before the sickening events of Monday night.
Alongside a video of the head-butt renowned Spanish title Marca reports:
After the match between Glasgow Celtic and Glasgow Rangers women’s football. Assistant coach Craig McPherson headbutted Spanish coach Fran Alonso from behind. Police Scotland has already announced that it has opened an investigation into the event and Rangers is also dealing with it internally.
Imagine the reaction of Scottish media outlets if a Scottish coach working with Real Madrid Ladies was head-butted in a derby match against Atletico while they were over to cover an international match?
With no action coming from the SFA yesterday it will be business as usual for McPherson at Murray Park today.
