The puzzling VAR image released to justify Josh Ginnelly’s goal against Celtic

Robbie Neilson had plenty to say last night about a challenge from Alexandro Bernabei on Nathan Atkinson.

Apparently the Hearts defender suffered a red card rated challenge but managed to survive the 90 minutes while Neilson made five outfield substitutions while Zander Clark switched an injury on and off.

Strangely none of his media buddies asked him about the highly debatable goal from Josh Ginnelly in the sixth minute that met with Nick Walsh’s approval in the VAR studio.

That was the image used by Celtic TV and Hearts TV to justify the goal being given, no lines have ever appeared to explain Liel Abada’s disallowed goal at Tynecastle in October.

From that image it is quite clear that the SFA have deployed Etch-a-sketch technology rather than Hawkeye.

Blurred lines and no close ups, one distant image being used clears up very little but it is an improvement on Celtic’s visit to Tynecastle in October where no image was offered to justify Steven McLean’s ruling a ‘goal’ from Liel Abada as offside.

On Saturday at Tynecastle Kevin Clancy will referee the match with Willie Collum on VAR.
