‘They still cant get over it’ ‘hilarious’ ‘still gets under peoples skin’ Celtic fans trash Daily Record over Lisbon Lions slur

Celtic fans weren’t slow to pile on the latest fantasy from the Daily Record.

Aimed at their declining army of readers the Record ran a story about how Aberdeen’s 1983 European Cup Winners Cup triumph was superior to Celtic’s 1967 European Cup win.

Aberdeen midfielder John McMaster holds that view, not so subtly the Record bundles together the Lisbon Lions with the 1972 European Cup Winners Cup which is utterly laughable on every level.

Celtic’s Lisbon triumph haunted Dave Murray throughout his time at Ibrox, from throwing about millions of overdraft at the Bank of Scotland through to accepting a pound coin from Craig Whyte in May 2011.

Similarly the Daily Record. Knowing that Celtic surpassed all other achievements in Scottish football in 1967 can’t be avoided, whenever any list is compiled it will always be what was second to the Lisbon Lions.

Thirty years ago Walter Smith’s heroes reached the last eight of the Champions League, it is only a matter of time before Mark Hateley or John Brown are sharing their views, again, with Record readers.
