A documentary broadcast in Japan has shown the brutal moment that Kyogo Furuhashi’s World Cup dream was ended by Hajime Moriyasu.

The day before Celtic flew to Madrid for a Champions League match the striker was up bright and early to watch the squad announcement from Tokyo.

With a camera in his living room the name of Daizen Maeda is read out but there is no mention of his Celtic team-mate.

It is a clip that could have gone either way, sadly for the striker it seems that his international boss is on a different wavelength to Ange Postecoglou.

From the clip it becomes clear how resolute Kyogo has had to be to survive almost two years in Scottish football.

For six months he was the only Japanese player at Celtic Park, just as Reo Hatate and Maeda were coming in he experienced the high of scoring twice to win a cup final but was soon going under the knife with an ugly scar left from surgery on his hamstring.

Since the dejection of World Cup rejection he has struck a rich run of goalscoring form- netting Celtic’s last three goals in the Glasgow derby to deliver one trophy and put the hoops in the driving seat to retain the SPFL title.
