Well into his fifth season at Ibrox Connor Goldson has admitted that his club is back to square one.
With seven players out of contract in the summer a huge rebuild is expected with Micky Beale revealing that there are no restrictions on his summer budget.
Goldson has a lucrative contract that runs until May 2026 which ensures some continuity alongside fellow loser James Tavernier in defence.
Since arriving at Ibrox in 2018 from Brighton Goldson has picked up two winners medals, the same as the St Johnstone squad of 20/21, with the odds stacked against him adding to that total before the start of the summer rebuild.
Admitting the failure that he has been central to the defender told The Sun:
I think that we haven’t pressed on — and that’s everything as a club. As a club we could have done more and now we are back to square one.
I get the whole frustration of the fans that we haven’t kicked on after 55 and gone and won 56 and 57.
After we won the Scottish Cup final last season, we have to go and win it this year or our season’s maybe going to bring no trophies.
We got to a European final last season and we lost it — and now the season after we are not top of the league.
There are so many ups and downs that have happened. It’s frustrating.
I feel I should have won more. Someone spoke to me the other day about the amount I have won and if I play X amount of games after eight years do I think I will be classed as a legend or in the Hall of Fame. And I said, ‘I haven’t won enough’.
Last May Goldson failed to cut out a simple ball into the goalmouth to allow Eintracht Frankfurt to equalise in the final of the Europa League, in February he lost similar goals to Kyogo Furuhashi in the final of the Viaplay Cup.
