Beale on course for first trophy as Penalty Table is updated

With just three rounds of fixtures to be played Micky Beale looks like romping to another trophy success.

Incredibly the Ibrox defenders have now completed 35 SPFL matches without conceding a penalty while their nearest challengers, Ross County, St Johnstone and Motherwell have both had four penalties awarded against them, Celtic are in mid-table having had seven penalties awarded against them this season.

Adding in the 18 matches last season since Kevin Clancy awarded a penalty to Aberdeen at Pittodrie it is believed that the Ibrox men are on a world record run of 53 league games without having a penalty awarded against them.

Steven McLean was in charge of applying Goldson’s Law yesterday, shortly before half time the former Shrewsbury starlet planted his right hand on the ball to deflect a cut back with the referee waving play on.

McLean has a long running problem with awarding Celtic penalties, dating back to April 2015 at Hampden and the infamous Josh Meekings handball.

After being overlooked from the Derby match for more than six years McLean’s performance at Ibrox almost certainly gets him on the rota for next season.
