Jose Cifuentes now appears to be Micky Beale’s top transfer target with most stories appearing to originate from a few tweets yesterday from Ecuador.

Celtic were heavily linked with the midfielder in 2019, tied in with a move to Manchester City and a loan to Celtic like many before him.

Rather than head to Europe Cifuentes moved to Los Angeles FC and will be out of contract in December when the MLS season comes to an end.

Los Angeles will be keen to get a fee for the 24-year-old before his deal expires but it is hard to imagine a blockbuster offer coming in from Ibrox that will force a deal through this month.

Covering Cifuentes the Daily Record reports:

Beale is now in pole position despite other European interest from French side Toulouse and English side Leeds United have also been linked previously. Rangers have been interested in the 13 times-capped Ecuadorian for some time and that perseverance looks like sealing a deal. Former sporting director Ross Wilson first put Cifuentes on the Ibrox radar and Beale has made him a priority target.

Midfield seems to be an area that Micky Beale is well covered in with Todd Cantwell and Nico Raskin getting Tillman-like reviews for recent performances.

John Lundstram and Glen Kamara are no longer the first picks that they once were, last night James Bisgrove discussed moving players out this summer at the same time as recruitment is stepped up. Beale also has Ryan Jack, Ianis Hagi and Alex Lowry to call on.

It seems that deals for Kieran Dowell and Dujon Sterling are virtually tied up.
