Seven young Ibrox stars are set to be released following defeats in the finals of the SFA Youth Cup and Glasgow Cup to Celtic.

With Murray Park failing to produce any first team prospects Ross Wilson and Craig Mulholland opted to swoop for players from other Academies to the usual fanfare.

Wilson and Mulholland have both quit Ibrox with their legacy getting cleared out as the club embarks on a major cost cutting exercise.

Tonight the Daily Record reports:

Rangers are set to release Tony Weston and several other members of their B team.

The Light Blues are also set to let Charlie Lindsay, Lewis Mackinnon, Alex Kpapke, Kelsey Ewen, Harley Ewen and Kevin Ciubotaru depart this summer. Weston was bought from Blackpool back in 2020 but has struggled to force his way into the first-team plans at Ibrox. The 19-year-old has had loans at Patrick Thistle and Cove Rangers, where he spent the second half of this season.

Northern Ireland under-19 cap Lindsay is also on his way out and is wanted by Sunderland and Derby County. Centre half MacKinnon, former Chelsea youngster Kpapke, defenders Harley and Kelsey Ewen are also set to move on, as is Romanian full-back Ciubotaru. It comes as Michael Beale revamps his first team squad with Alfredo Morelos and Allan McGregor’s departures confirmed already by the Ibrox boss while many more, like Ryan Kent, could well follow.

This season Weston made 29 appearances as a substitute on loan at Partick Thistle and Cove Rangers without scoring a single goal.

It is expected that there will be internal reshuffles to replace Wilson and Mulholland, saving on two significant salaries.

40,000 season books sold by sevco so far that means they can keep the confetti in their pockets a little while longer throughout the summer months.

9 first team players out of contract at sevco and getting binned now 7 from the academy binned and chased, it looks like that auld favourite with their financial situation again, doing more tapping than a blind man’s stick.
