Daily Record ‘floats’ the Brendan Rodgers theory

Whipped into a frenzy of speculation based on nothing in particular the Daily Record is running a story suggesting a Celtic comeback for Brendan Rodgers.

Time might be a great heeler but four years on from the events of February 2019 the wounds are still painful for most Celtic fans.

Had Rodgers stayed on until the end of the Treble Treble season he would have left with reluctant acceptance from most Celtic fans.

Sloping off in the middle of the night days before trips to Tynecastle and Easter Road while trying to empty the club of coaching staff won’t be forgotten in a hurry.

Fortunately John Kennedy and Stevie Woods resisted to provide some stability, Damien Duff stepped up from the reserves with Neil Lennon coming in, initially on a caretaker basis.

Spurs’ chief Daniel Levy has reportedly put a formal approach on hold until after the showpiece, and that has sparked chatter over who could replace the Australian should he make the move south of the border. A name that has emerged prominently on social media is former Parkhead boss Brendan Rodgers.

The Northern Irishman has been met with a mixed response after enjoying a glittering time in Scotland winning a double-treble in his two full seasons at the club – including an unbeaten Scottish Premiership title-winning campaign. However, his mid-season exit for Leicester City left a bad taste among some of the club’s supporters.

Not half, and not even watching the recent Scottish Cup semi-final victory from a Hampden executive box is likely to remove the taste of February 2019.
