Kolo Toure returned to Celtic Park yesterday to take in the home draw with St Mirren.

The legendary defender has had a traumatic year after quitting Leicester City for Wigan where he lasted just nine winless matches before the inevitable with Shaun Maloney left to fire fight against relegation.

Toure had an equally short but more successful playing career at Celtic, drafted in almost out of retirement to steer the defence through Champions League qualifiers.

He achieved that away to Hapoel Beer Sheva, making 17 appearances in total before taking up a coaching role under Brendan Rodgers then heading off to Leicester City, overnight in February 2019.

Having failed in one brief spell in management Toure will find it difficult to get a second chance despite his incredible playing CV and coaching apprenticeship under Brendan Rodgers.

Ange Postecoglou thought outside of the box to bring in Harry Kewell to his backroom team last summer but there doesn’t appear to be any current vacancies.

A new job for Rodgers is probably the most likely opening for Toure to return to coaching.
