As if this season hadn’t been painful enough salt was rubbed into deep wounds last night at Hampden.

Leading Celtic to lift the SFA Youth Cup at the National Stadium was central midfielder Kyle Ure.

After 120 minutes commanding the midfield alongside Daniel Kelly, Ure raised the trophy in a moment that seemed to trigger quite a reaction on the popular Follow Follow message board.

It seems that Ure is joining a long list led by Kenny Dalglish and Danny McGrain, putting football development ahead of childhood dreams.

Craig Mulholland seems to have rejected young Ure for a place among the Murray Park starlets, anyone watching last night’s match would have noted one team playing expansive attacking football and another reliant on physicality which will never be converted into a football career at the top level.

On Tuesday Mulholland announced his departure as the Head of Ibrox Academy, Bologna and Scotland midfielder Lewis Ferguson is another True Blue rejected by the Mulholland who is expected to walk into a new role at the SFA.
