Filip Helander is in talks to join Swedish side Malmo.

Yesterday it was announced that there would be no new contract for the defender who moved to Ibrox in the summer of 2019 in a £3m deal with Bologna.

Injuries have restricted Helander to just 35 SPFL starts in four years at Ibrox but 13 months after he last played any sort of match he is close to returning to the club he started off with in 2011.

Swedish site Fotoboltransfers.com reports:

Filip Helander, 30, will leave Rangers this summer. Malmö’s sporting director Daniel Andersson admits that there is contact with the centre-back.

National team meritorious defender Filip Helander is on an expiring contract with Rangers FC .

The Scottish big club announced earlier today that the Swede is one of four players who will leave the squad this summer.

Now Daniel Andersson , sporting director at Malmö FF , says that he is in contact with Helander regarding a return.

– Of course we have contact with him. Right now he is doing rehab training after his injury and the most important thing is that he gets healthy, he tells Sydsvenskan .

Helander will take a bow before the Ibrox support following tonight’s match against Hearts, during his four years with the club he picked up one winners medal.

Always thought he never really wanted to be within such a scummy club.
Seemed to always be injured like so many seem to be, so did he really want to represent such scum?
Don’t think so myself and could hardly blame him either once he copped himself on and realised what such a shower of scum stand for
