Jota failed to make it into the SPFL Premiership Team of the Season but he did pick up one trophy at tonight’s Awards Night.

That brilliantly executed chip over Jon McLaughlin in the opening Glasgow Derby of the season was voted as the best of the season by his fellow professionals.

From a quickly taken free-kick Matt O’Riley delivered the perfect pass to find Jota in space on the right hand side going into the penalty box.

McLaughlin appeared to have most of the angles covered but a brilliantly pitched chip from the former Benfica man curled over the keeper, across goal and in at the far post to put Celtic 3-0 in front.

Jota has provided a variety of significant goals as Celtic stormed to the SPFL Premiership title including what proved to be the winner in the critical April Derby match that put Celtic 12 points clear.

Racing onto a poor pass from John Souttar he drew Allan McGregor from his goal then squeezed the ball across goal from a very tight angle.
