It seems that it was the Beale factor than convinced Dujon Sterling to move to Ibrox.

In the final year of his contract at Chelsea the defender was sent out on loan to Stoke City where he made 26 Championship appearances as Alex Neil’s side finished in 16th place.

It all seems very unspectacular but with Micky Beale coaching at the Chelsea Academy until 2012 and having strong contacts in The Championship Sterling seems a good fit for the Beale Revolution.

Discussing the approach that led to signing a four year contract The Daily Record reports Sterling saying:

I wasn’t really making my mind up about my future this quick. But the gaffer came in before the season ended and what he proposed to me was everything I need and want to do, we are on the same wavelength.

I had a lot of clubs in for me as I was going into free agency as well. But I knew straight away after he gave me his proposal, what he wants to do, and as soon as I left the meeting, I said I was signing here.

How much passion he has to win, how much he wants to see players succeed and how much he believes in my ability and he wants everyone on the same page. That is important, especially if you want to be winning titles.

Sterling is described as a right sided defender, the positions that James Tavernier and Connor Goldson have had nailed down for the past five seasons.

Beale has plenty of holes to fill in his squad but the right side of defence wasn’t thought to be a priority. In contrast, on the left Ben Davies, Ridvan Yilmaz and Borna Barisic all had their problems over the season just finished.
