Chris Sutton has no doubt that Ange Postecoglou would be tempted by an offer to manage Spurs.

On Thursday morning Feyenoord boss Arne Slot ruled himself out of the vacancy with media speculation turning quickly towards Postecoglou.

The Australian is about to be presented with his second SPFL winners medal after a remarkable transformation, turning around a shell of a club to a trophy winning machine.

Unlike Brendan Rodgers there hasn’t been a single word from Postecoglou to suggest that he is using Celtic as a platform to move elsewhere but after the experiences of February 2019 hoops fans won’t take anything for granted.

Assessing the situation with a foot in the English media camp, Sutton told Daily Record readers:

I speak to a lot of Spurs fans on the radio and a lot of them are fed up with the way the club play. They were sick of the style of football under Jose. They were sick of the defensive approach under Conte.

There is a historical demand for entertaining, attacking football at the club – and Postecoglou ticks those boxes. I’m sure a lot of Spurs fans would be happy to see him come in, even if he might not be the big name appointment some of the other candidates might be.

This is a club that is craving silverware – they’ve only won one trophy in 20 years. Postecoglou is a serial winner. But Postecoglou would back himself. Would be be tempted? Of course he would be.

He has been in the game long enough to know you sometimes have to move when you are hot. Celtic will be aware of it as well.

They know he won’t be around forever and I’ve got no doubt they will have a contingency plan in place. But I would think even Celtic fans would understand if he made that decision, even if they would be desperately disappointed.

Whoever takes on the Spurs job will have to deal with the influence on recruitment from a Director of Football and uncertainty over the future of Harry Kane.

Moving from Celtic to Spurs won’t be a bigger challenge than leaving Japan for Scotland two years ago but the number of managers that Spurs have gone through in the last decade is a massive red flag- or challenge.

Postecoglou appears to have a strong bond with Michael Nicholson and clearly with the Celtic support.

The sooner that Spurs appoint a new manager the better as far as Celtic are concerned- as long as it isn’t the man that has taken them to one match away from an eighth domestic treble.

Ange won’t be going to spurs. Levy (the chairman) is an egomaniacal interfering prick who will not give up control of “his club”. He has delivered only 1 trophy in his time as chairman. Ange widnae gi’ him the time of day

What Sutton knows about football management – probably isn’t worth knowing! Like I said!
