A football finance ‘expert’ has compared the top two clubs in the SPFL by using valuations from Transfermarkt.com.

The Sun have called in Dan Plumley, a respected sports finance expert at Sheffield Hallam University who has previously featured on the likes of Football Insider, Sky News and BBC to  provide reassurances to troubled bears that their company will one day be winning trophies.

Transfermarkt is notorious for generous valuations of Ibrox stars. Currently James Tavernier and Todd Cantwell are valued at €8.00m, John Lundstram is a snip at €7.5m with Connor Goldson priced at €7m.

Ryan Kent will walk away for nothing next month but is valued at €11m by Transfermarkt with Alfredo Morelos rated at €7m.

The site is full of hilarious valuations, undeterred The Sun fired the big questions at Plumley:

Rangers’ ‘player trading model’ brought them big wins on Calvin Bassey and Nathan Patterson. Do you think they have assets in their current squad? Is such a model necessarily ‘boom and bust’?

“I think if you’re going to do that and kind of, pin your colours to that mast, so to speak, you need to do it in a strategic way. There is value in that Rangers squad.

“Even if you look at something like transfermarkt, it’s rated at about £109m million, but a lot of those players are perhaps coming towards their end of the careers, not necessarily a younger talent like the two examples you mentioned previously.

“So, it’s whether or not you can realise that value in an open market – that’s another question.

Three years ago Dave King revealed that the Ibrox squad has been valued at £200m, as Morelos knows better than anyone you are worth whatever someone is prepared to pay with no genuine interest in the former HJK Helsinki starlet during six years of hype at Ibrox.

  • Johnno says:

Turning to a plum as an expert says it all.
The scum would struggle to 10M if they sold the lot of the useless fucks, and that also takes into account the higher inflation rates upon shite also

Joe ! Stop it, Ive just had my supper and laughing on a full stomach is not the best time ,

  • John Copeland says:

I think Mr Plumley is onto plums with his valuation of the tribute act there ! He probably got a tad confused and forgot to mention that the £109 million for the Rangers ‘superstars ‘ is based on the old Italian Lira . A packet of bubblegum cost 700 thousand back then so it won’t be too long till that amount of filthy lucre is spent …. Confetti anyone !

  • Tony B says:

Utter pish and total bollocks to keep the deluded gullibillies happy.

  • Bob (original) says:

    Aye, alright.

Even if the sevco squad was ‘valued’ at £1Bn,

it doesn’t impact the Balance Sheet,

and it doesn’t improve the Ibrox club’s position on the UEFA FSR watchlist.

Desperate, desperate stuff from the Ibrox PR donkeys. 🙂

  • Scud Missile says:

There are true BENNYS out there who will believe that pish, some have been known to drink it Seville.

  • Rosalie Hagart says:

Wouldn’t give taverner a chance at Celtic even if we got him on a free transfer,as for the rest they are all duds

  • BriBhoy says:

I’d love to sell one of these clowns my car.

  • Dando says:

Financial expert? Just ask Jon Dahl Tomasson.

    HH

  • Duncan says:

Interestingly enough the entire Club has a market value of £29m according to their Share Price in the Alternative Dilution Vehicle For Numpties (ADVFN) share index.

That’s if yer daft enough to believe it and subsequently buy it of course 🙂

  • Davie says:

Going by those valuations Douglas Badder would be worth £5million and could run rings around them all ? ?
