One wind-up tweet sent Ibrox fans into a frenzy of Graeme Souness related rumours throughout the day.
After a decade of abject misery bears of all ages look on dewy eyed at the Souness era when the biggest names in English football were lured to Ibrox as the club set off on the road to ruin and liquidation.
Terry Butcher turned down Manchester United to move to Rangers, he was followed by Graham Roberts and Chris Woods, later on Everton were raided for Trevor and Gary Stevens. Seasoned internationalists Ray Wilkins, Trevor Francis and Mark Hateley all joined the exodus north as well as B-listers like Kevin Drinkell, Mel Sterland and Dale Gordon.
Most of the nineties belonged to Rangers but even through that dominance there was only one domestic treble while they were routinely humiliated in Europe by sides likes Sparta Prague, CSKA Moscow and AEK Athens.
Souness walked away just short of five years into his Revolution, he was despised and detested at the time for his act of betrayal but these days he enjoys legendary status for kick starting the only period of dominance and fan under 70 can recall.
After Sky Sports decided against renewing his contract Souness is poised for a new role. Could it be as Chairman at Ibrox, CEO, Sporting Director or simply as an ambassador for the club formed by Charles Green in 2012?
With Saturday’s euphoria still in the air the WhatsApp messages have been flying around all day- triggered off by one Internet Bampot.
Former Sky Sports presenter and Galatasary manager Graeme Souness has completed a 200 million pound takeover of Rangers International Football Club PLC.
His close friends Brian Kennedy and Sir David Murray are funding the deal.

How do you manage to catch so many people out every time ? I mean, it’s ridiculous really !

I know the Souness story is utter bollox but at least I got to learn there is someone with the Twitter handle
“Positive Member of the Bipolar Loyal @spiderPiglets”
That alone was worth knowing.
Why would we care? Last time I seen him on Sky sports he was taking drivel as he did in the past. They recognise he’s a dinosaurs and well gone by his extinction date. To be fair at least he played football unlike the other sacked clown( many years ago, who’s job went to a women) trying to make a comeback for himself. Least said about them is the best way.
It’s the hope that kills them. Every single time
