VAR stealing a wage as officials bottle it at John Souttar’s goal
All of the hysteria that followed Kevin Clancy’s decision to disallow a ‘goal’ from Alfredo Morelos against Celtic last month paid off in today’s Glasgow Derby at Ibrox.
In the previous SPFL meeting Morelos had pushed and pulled at Alastair Johnston in front of goal with Clancy instantly disallowing the ‘goal’ from the striker.
Led by Micky Beale and their social media messengers Ibrox fans rounded on the match referee with predictable results.

Today Steven McLean took note of that incident as he allowed John Souttar to grab Yuki Kobayashi’s shirt, drag the Celtic defender to the ground then head into the net.
On VAR Steven Kirkland knew the consequences of applying the Laws of the Game, disallowing the ‘goal’ and leaving the match in the balance at 1-0.
McLean’s decision was similar to that of Nick Walsh in February’s Viaplay Cup Final when Morelos was able to use both hands to push Aaron Mooy away to create a yard of space to score from a corner.
At the Celtic AGM in November Michael Nicholson told shareholders that there would be teething issues with the introduction of VAR.
