Watch Joe Hart open up on his Ange Postecoglou introduction

Joe Hart has explained in detail to Ben Foster the dynamics of his relationship with Ange Postecoglou.

It would have seemed far fetched two years ago to suggest that a former England keeper would find his career revived by a 55-year-old Australian being thrown in at the deep end by Celtic as he experienced European football for the first time bar a brief spell in Greece 10 years earlier.

Hart and Postecoglou are two very driven characters, in Glasgow watched by 60,000 fans every fortnight they have found the stage that their careers required with a special chemistry driving all parties to success and acclaim.

I spoke to Ange and I thought if something comes up that I don’t want to do, I am not going to do it. If it means that I have to sit for another year and then that was me out of football, so be it.

I have done what I need to do in football. I got asked to have a conversation with him. Respectfully, I didn’t know much about his background and he was so cool. I probably sounded like a strange guy because I said I needed to speak first.

I said, ‘I don’t mean it in a rude way but this is what’s gone on, this is why I am struggling with football’ and I said ‘for me to work, this is how you will get the best version of me if we do get there’.

Honesty, give me a chance to show what I can do, I’ll help, I said all I want to do is be part of something. I don’t like this sort of here a year, there a year, I need to be a part of it and feel something.

He said that was what he was looking for. He said, ‘I like you as a goalkeeper. I’ve not even talked about goalkeeping. I’ve done a bit of digging about you as a person, I’m getting positive things. I’ve done more digging about when you haven’t been playing and you’ve always been a positive influence and someone trying to push and drive and help. It’s early stages in the talks but I like what you have got to offer’.

And I was like, ‘I like what you have got to offer’. It just progressed from there. I didn’t know he was a total football manager, I didn’t know he literally turned up to Celtic on his own, didn’t bring any staff with him, just walked in. He is an awesome force, an unbelievable coach, a really strong presence. Very, very clear, you know exactly where you stand. Asks a lot of people but because he believes they can do it.

The only problem with those quotes are that they will make Postecoglou more attractive to the many EPL clubs changing manager. Leeds, Spurs and Chelsea have all had at least three managers in charge of matches this season.

Postecoglou appears to be happy with the 12 month rolling contract that he signed when he joined Celtic in June 2021, there has been no leaks to the media about any problems or issues in his terms or relationship with the Celtic hierarchy.
