A trip to Lisbon will always be something of a pilgrimage for Celtic fans, especially this week.

Exactly 56 years ago today the fans went in their thousands to the Portuguese capital, they returned with the big cup and a lifetime of stories and anecdotes.

This week there are more Celtic fans than usual in Lisbon, plus one couple from Sweden who have a more recent hoops connection. Carl Starfelt’s Mum and Dad.

Other than the installation of seats behind both goals Estadio Nacional remains virtually unchanged since it hosted the match that transformed Scottish and European football.

A plaque was recently added to the pavilion side of the stadium with the details of the 1967 European Cup Final, the first time that the new look cup was contested for after the original trophy was handed to Real Madrid.
