Andy Walker announces his exit from Sky Sports SPFL coverage

Andy Walker has announced that he won’t be covering any more live SPFL matches for Sky Sports.

The former Celtic striker had enjoyed a 14 year run mainly as co-commentator to Ian Crocker but it looks like Chris Sutton will be taking up that role.

With Kris Boyd and James McFadden joining Walker on Sky Sports duty a large number of Celtic fans restrict their viewing to the 90 minutes of action and little else.

Walker told Go Radio on Monday (40 minutes):

I did sign off last night. That will be my last Sky game in Scotland. I’m hoping to retain all the English games that I do but I’ve been there for 14 years and I’ve really enjoyed it. I know we get a bit of stick here and there but I think it’s a truly talented and hard working team in Scotland.

And I think whoever gets the gig, I hope they enjoy it as much as I have because it’s been an absolute blast. I’ve really loved it.

During an appearance on Go Radio in April, Walker let slip that Sky Sports hear the discussions between the match referee and VAR. Live on air he claimed that an official was told to go with the easy decision over an offside call, forcing a sheepish apology as reported by STV.

Chris Sutton challenging and taking Kris Boyd’s arguments apart should make for good viewing with Sky surely expecting to take their new summer signing to Ibrox, a venue that Sutton has previously been banned from. The first Glasgow Derby of next season will be at Ibrox.
